Families Helping Families of Acadiana (FHF Acadiana) is a nonprofit organization based in Lafayette, Louisiana, dedicated to supporting individuals with disabilities and their families. As one of ten regional resource centers in the state, FHF Acadiana operates under the principles of Louisiana Act 378 of 1989, emphasizing family-directed services and peer support .
Mission and Philosophy
FHF Acadiana’s mission is to assist and strengthen individuals with disabilities and their families through a coordinated network of resources, services, and support. The organization is staffed by individuals who either have disabilities themselves or have family members with disabilities, ensuring that services are delivered with empathy and firsthand understanding.
Core Services
Since its inception, FHF Acadiana has served thousands of families in Region IV through three primary services:
- Information & Referral: Connecting families with appropriate services and supports within their communities.
- Peer-to-Peer Support: Providing guidance and assistance from trained staff who share similar life experiences.
