19th Annual Gumbo Cook-Off to Support Ezekiel Whipp

Mark your calendars for a day of food, fun, and community spirit at The 19th Annual Gumbo Cook-Off, scheduled for Saturday, January 25, 2025, at the Yambilee Ag Arena in Opelousas, Louisiana. Hosted by The Gumbo Foundation, this beloved annual event will benefit one-year-old Ezekiel Whipp, a courageous little boy facing significant medical challenges.

About Ezekiel Whipp Ezekiel, the son of Kaylee and Logan Whipp, was diagnosed shortly after birth with Non-ketotic Hyperglycinemia (NKH), a rare genetic disorder. He also battles Epilepsy and Spastic Quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy. Despite these challenges, Ezekiel brings immense joy to his family, which includes his two sisters, Annalise and Aliza. All proceeds from the event will go directly to assist Ezekiel and his family with medical and related expenses.

Event Highlights The Gumbo Cook-Off is much more than a cooking competition. While the highlight is undoubtedly the delicious gumbo entries, there’s plenty for everyone to enjoy:

  • Motorcycle & Jeep Run: A thrilling ride for vehicle enthusiasts.
  • Kids’ Activity Area: Fun-filled activities for the little ones.
  • Silent and Live Auctions: Bid on a wide variety of items generously donated by local businesses and individuals.
  • Music & Dancing: Live music will keep the energy high throughout the day.
  • Food & Drinks: Savor delicious treats alongside the star of the show — gumbo!

Gumbo Cook-Off Details

  • Entry Fee: $50 per team.
  • Prizes: Awards will be given for First, Second, and Third Places, as well as the People’s Choice Award. The Grand Champion will receive a specially designed Gumbo Cook-Off Paddle.
  • Spectator Participation: For a small donation, attendees can sample the gumbos after judging and cast their vote for People’s Choice.

Schedule

  • Grounds Open: 8:00 AM
  • Kick-Off Ceremony: 10:00 AM
  • Auction: Begins at 1:30 PM, followed by the Winners Ceremony.
  • Music & Dancing: Continues until 6:00 PM.
