Local children's author Margaret David Laborde launches new book
From A to Zoot helps build a solid foundation for a happy life
Lafayette, Louisiana. Mascot Books announces the Oct. 2 release of From A to Zoot, written by Margaret David Laborde and Rebecca Feeney Doherty. With the goal of building a solid foundation for a happy life, the authors have worked with artist Paul Kalil Roach to create the Land of Zoot.
Step into the whimsical Land of Zoot where the lovable zootsnoot invites all on a magical journey to meet his friends, who spark the imagination and inspire self-confidence and positive thinking.
In From A to Zoot, a lovable character called a zootsnoot takes the reader on a journey through the Land of Zoot to meet his friends, each of whom embodies a positive message. The story’s words and illustrations are positive and optimistic in every detail, making it the perfect bedtime picture book to inspire sweet dreams.
Additionally, the book reinforces the alphabet and colors and provides an interactive experience for the reader as the zootsnoot hides on each page. The whimsical illustrations invite readers to search for and count the hidden hearts throughout the book to reinforce counting and memory. All in all, the book is a fun and entertaining way for children to learn fundamental academic skills while promoting positive thinking, civility and goodwill.
Before becoming a lawyer and later a judge, Doherty was a teacher. Every day since her grandchildren were born, she has read them a good night story. Her goal in helping to create the Land of Zoot was to craft the perfect book for their shared nightly journey — one that invites all to visit a magical kingdom, populated by endearing creatures who share gentle life lessons and inspire the unlimited possibilities of the imagination. She also wanted to help her grandchildren learn and reinforce their understanding and mastery of the alphabet and numbers.
Laborde is an attorney from Louisiana who practices law in the Lafayette office of Jones Walker LLP. She believes that the words we choose to describe ourselves and our world shape our behavior and, ultimately, our lives. This core belief was woven throughout From A to Zoot to encourage positive thinking and an appreciation for the beauty and wonder all around us.
The authors have also created lessons and lesson plans providing guidance and ideas for parents and teachers alike for educational interaction with the book and its imaginative kingdom. The lessons/lesson plans can be found on the Land of Zoot website starting October 2.
