Fun Nation launches one-of-a-kind STEM program
Fun Nation, formerly known as The Skate Zone, launched a one-of-a-kind STEM program for the 2017-18 school year in August. The focus of the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math platform is to allow students to have a hands on experiences in these subjects.
Sparking student’s interest now creates new opportunities for them in the job market upon graduation. This year, grades three through eight will be able to partake in the program and be challenged by the cool experiments.
Fun Nation owner Frank Torries said he is proud to be able to provide this intriguing opportunity along with a fun outing for kids. The program will go on throughout the school year, as every grade in the participating schools completes each phase.
To help children retain information, they will take part in the activities and then skate afterward. Introducing different topics right on the roller skating floor, children are more attentive and are encouraged to experiment.
Rather than teach the four disciplines as separate and discrete subjects, STEM integrates them into a cohesive learning paradigm based on real-world applications. Meeting the academic and educational needs of students from elementary to high school, the program has different presentations based on each level.
When asked his reason for developing the program, creator Glenn Little stated, “For years my goal for every class has been to create a unique learning atmosphere that will produce ‘Light Bulb’ moments within students. I want them to be able to look at the world around them and be inspired.”
Fun Nation is dedicated to providing light bulb moments to students of all ages in a unique, fun environment. To sign up for an upcoming session, call 337-988-1400.
