World Championship chefs generate interest in St. Martinville dining scene
For a deeper appreciation into the foods and personalities that make the south a culinary destination look to the creative and talented duo of Chef Kernis Louviere and Chef David Landry.
I had the pleasure to meet both Chef Louviere and Chef Landry cooking up their masterpiece in the home of Chef Louviere in St. Martinville, La. Walking into his second outdoor kitchen, you instantly smell the aroma of cochon pork belly sizzling in his pan – an aroma so wonderful you can taste it.
The chefs first met at a BBQ competition and instantly hit it off. Chef Louviere, who owns Envie Catering, partnered up with Chef Landry and they became the Dynamic Duo. Both have the passion and knowledge of what great food should taste like, and combined they became unstoppable. Winning championships and breaking records, together Chef Louviere and Chef Landry both won the World Championship Gumbo Cook Off a total of 14 times. Chef Louviere was the one and only professional chef who won both categories the very same year for seafood gumbo and non seafood gumbo.
Their cuisine reflects their passion and purpose of Cajun style cooking. You can find them performing in traditional intimate family affairs, as well as being the basis for huge festivals and celebrations throughout Southern Louisiana.
