Sweet Deal at the Jockey Lot: Meet Bayou Sweetie, Acadiana's Homemade Pecan Candy

Homemade Candy, Made the Old Way
If you are headed to the Lafayette Jockey Lot this weekend for the annual Fall Garage Sale, do not leave without looking for the pecan candy. A Louisiana-made treat called Bayou Sweetie is there right now, and word travels fast when something this good shows up in Acadiana.
Bayou Sweetie is the work of Monica Malbrough, and the pitch is simple: rich, creamy homemade pecan candy, made in a Louisiana kitchen and wrapped for freshness. No factory line, no ingredient list you need a chemistry degree to read. Just the kind of candy somebody's grandmother would keep in a tin on the counter and dole out like it was gold.
The lineup is straightforward. The Original Sweetie runs $5, or four for $20. The 12-piece Mini Sweetie Box is $25. The 24-piece standard box is $40, and the 40-piece Party Box, built for celebrations and get-togethers, is $60. Every box is tied with a ribbon and ready for a table full of friends.
Holiday Preorders Are Already Open
Thanksgiving and Christmas preorders are live now at bayousweetie.com: 24-piece holiday boxes at $40 each, orange ribbon for Thanksgiving, red ribbon for Christmas. You pick your items, tap the "Text my order" button, and send the message. Everything runs through Monica at 337-203-9575, and every order requires her confirmation before it counts. All holiday payments are due November 15, 2026, so the kitchen can plan accordingly.
It is a small operation doing business the right way: order, confirm, then pay after your total is set. Pickup and delivery are arranged by text, and there are no invoices or surprises. One thing worth knowing before you gift a box: the candy contains milk and tree nuts (pecans).
Support Local Is More Than a Hashtag
It has been a good stretch for Acadiana food. Louisiana's dining rooms are getting national attention, and that attention starts with regular people choosing to spend their money close to home. A weekend at the Jockey Lot is exactly that: hundreds of local vendors, families selling what they made, and a candy box that costs about what you would spend on a drive-thru lunch. When you buy from a neighbor, the money stays here, and the people who made your food get to keep making it.
Fall in Acadiana is built for this kind of Saturday anyway, from a morning at the flea market to an afternoon at Festivals Acadiens et Créoles. Pecan season is here, the weather finally broke, and somebody just put homemade candy in your path.
Where to Find Them
The Jockey Lot is at 3011 NW Evangeline Thruway in Lafayette, open Saturday 8 AM to 5 PM and Sunday 9 AM to 5 PM, rain or shine. Find Bayou Sweetie on Facebook and TikTok at @BayouSweetie, call or text Monica at 337-203-9575, or order online at bayousweetie.com. And if you miss them this weekend, the holiday preorders mean your Thanksgiving table can still get its Sweeties.
