Local author Alysson Bourque is excited to announce the recent launch of her third book in the Alycat Series titled Alycat and the Friendship Friday. The former lawyer and full time mother was first inspired to write children’s books when her bedtime stories with her family had all been read.
Bourque won the Mom’s Choice Award for both Alycat and the Thursday Dessert Day and Alycat and the Monday Blues. She is also the recipient of the Benjamin Franklin Digital Award from the Independent Book Publishers Association (IBPA), a finalist of the Best Book Award and a Louisiana Book Festival Featured Author.
In hopes to find her purpose of providing for the community and inspiring children to be their best selves, Bourque began writing stories based on every day struggles that many children come across. The goal in each book is to provide ideas on how children can conquer their problems by being proactive and spreading kindness.
Each of the three books are available on Amazon and several stores like Barnes and Noble, Target, Zoosiana gift shop, Lolli and Bop, Cajun Collective, Kiddeauxs and Homegrown just to name a few.
Upon launching the newest book Alycat and the Friendship Friday, Bourque held a contest with the 337 communities who nominated their favorite teacher that they feel go above and beyond for children and the educational system, as all teachers do.
First-grade teacher Morgan Deshotels of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School in Scott won the nomination contest with several votes. Deshotels received books for every child in her classroom sponsored by DIY Party, along with a special visit of Alysson Bourque who did a live reading for the students.
“Once I started writing and publishing books, doors started opening in ways I never imagined — and things just fell into place,” she said. “I was able to refocus on my childhood passions and abilities that I once strived for that were suppressed by real-life pressures. I can now say with complete confidence that I really love what I do.”
She particularly enjoys involving her kids in every aspect of her work. Ideas for her stories come from watching her daughter Izzy, age 9, and son Carter, 7, learn and grow.
The two are fans of the Alycat books and enjoy promoting their mother’s works. Carter uses his increasing tech skills to work the projector for events, and Izzy showcases her singing talents.
Not to mention that with the help of her husband and talented musician, Doug Borque, there are songs for each book available on the iTunes Store. The Alycat Series also has a variety of character-based plush dolls that are available for purchase online.
Support Alysson and her hopes to become an Amazon Best-Seller by purchasing the books online, followed by a recommendation and review letting them know how your children like them!
