LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) – After starting out with dry conditions and hot temperatures, scattered storms develop in the afternoon hours. Before the storms arrive, temperatures will reach into the low and mid 90s with feels-like temperatures between 100 and 105 degrees. Make sure you drink plenty of water and wear sunscreen if you will be outdoors today. Scattered storms develop during the afternoon and continue into the evening hours. These storms will be slow-moving and could produce heavy rain. Minor flooding could occur in flood-prone areas where storms sit overhead. Overall, the area will see between half an inch and an inch of rain with pockets of 2 inches or more.

Monday will start out with more heat and humidity before storms develop during the afternoon. Highs reach the lower 90s before storms develop. Rain will help cool parts of the area off going into the evening hours.

Tropical Storm Chantal made landfall early Sunday morning near Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, bringing heavy rain, strong winds, and rough surf to coastal areas. Chantal will now start to weaken, but heavy rain will be possible in eastern North Carolina and Virginia for the next few days.

Locally, we will see summer heat and humidity continue through next week with daily rain chances around thirty per cent each afternoon.
