LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) – A few showers moved through the area during the morning hours. Rain chances remain low through the day, but most areas will see a very hot and humid Independence Day. Temperatures warm into the mid 90s during the afternoon hours and it will feel more like 100 to 105 at times. A few storms will develop during the afternoon and evening hours before settling down prior to the fireworks shows later tonight. Overnight, all rain comes to an end as temperatures hold in the upper 70s.
Saturday starts out with more humid conditions before temperatures surge into the 90s before midday. A mixture of sun and clouds will do little to cool temperatures and many will reach the mid 90s with a feels-like temperature around 105 degrees. An isolated storm or two will be possible, but most will remain rain-free through the day.
In the tropics, we continue to follow an area of low pressure off the Southeast coast that is starting to get better organized. This will likely try to develop this weekend into our next named system, Chantal, before moving towards the Outer Banks of North Carolina. This will not be a threat for Acadiana. East Coast residents will see squally conditions with heavy rain, gusty winds, and rough surf over the weekend.
Locally, we are tracking an increase in rain chances for our Sunday before a more typical summertime setup returns next week. Each day will see temperatures in the lower 90s with pop-up storm chances developing each afternoon.
