LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) – Storms developed during the morning hours and will become more widespread through the day as tropical moisture surges northward. At times, rain will be heavy and there will be plentiful lightning and gusty winds. Highs reach right around 90 degrees.

Tonight, temperatures drop in to the 70s as all rain comes to an end. Monday, drier air settles in leading to afternoon temperatures reaching the low-to-mid 90s. A few storms develop, though there will be fewer around to break the heat. Feels-like temperatures will be around 105 degrees.

In the tropics, we continue to monitor Tropical Depression “Two”. It strengthened overnight slightly, now with winds of 35 mph. It still has a few hours to try and strengthen into a tropical storm before it runs into the Mexican coast later this evening. If it does reach tropical storm status, it will get the name “Barry”.

Locally, drier and hotter weather settles in for this next week. Rain chances will be around 30 per cent each afternoon as storms develop with daytime heating. These will help break the heat for a few lucky areas. High temperatures each afternoon could reach the mid 90s. July 4th looks to be fairly dry and very hot, with temperatures in the afternoon reaching the mid 90s and only a few pop-up storms.
