Between Two Countries
Born in born Morelia Michoacán, Andrea Herrera spent her childhood between Mexico and the U.S.A. She grew up in Cuidad del Carmen Campeche in the south of Mexico, and then moved on to southwest Louisiana at the University of Louisiana – Lafayette.
Something Fishy Going On
While studying nursing at ULL, Andrea met handsome Loreauville native, Grant. Their first date was “a lot of fun,” Grant says, but “slightly weird for the Cajun boy.” On the high recommendation of Andrea’s best friend Jessica, Grant invited the Mexican beauty to a romantic dinner at Bonefish Grill.
Not so coincidentally, Andrea’s friends were at a prom dinner and sat next to them at the restaurant. She sates that her friends were “staring and giggling” at them during the entire dinner. At last, the couple escaped to the theater to watch Hunger Games. “We had a blast, and felt comfortable with each other by laughing and conversing the entire night,” Andrea shares.
Grant is a true Cajun boy who loves hunting, camping and playing video games, while Andrea is on the serious side. Grant enjoys making jokes, which annoys Andrea at times, but inevitably makes her laugh. “The serious and goofy characteristics of our personalities balance our relationship,” Grant reveals.
Grant knew that Andrea was the one for him, “the second she opened the door,” he confides. “I love her smile and she is the woman I need and want in my life. She is perfect!” Andrea fell in love with Grant for his “charisma, goofiness, big heart and beautiful eyes.” She says the key to their relationship of opposites is that, “we complement each other, since Grant is our goofy side and I am the more serious side. It balances the relationship.”
For Andrea, there was no doubt that she and Grant would make it in the long run. “My favorite quote is ‘If you love something, let it go. If it comes back to you, it is forever. If it doesn’t come back, it was not meant to be.” As a couple, the two spend a lot of time with friends and family, and enjoy camping and cooking with them.
When it came time for the proposal, Grant planned it out with Andrea’s dad. His idea was to have a special dinner with family and friends in Houston, where Andrea’s family now lives. Before dinner, Grant plotted to propose to Andrea at the Uptown Houston Waterwall Park. During the walk from the car to the waterfall, Grant started feeling incredibly nervous.
The moment he got down on one knee, Andrea’s family started snapping pictures. Shaking, Grant began to ask Andrea to marry him. The pragmatic Andrea did not believe him, and told him to “quit joking about proposing” to her in front of her parents. She then realized that her family was getting emotional, and her best friend was crying. Determinedly, Grant finally popped the question, “Will you marry me?” Of course she said, “Yes!”
A Bi-Cultural Wedding
For the couple, the most special part of the wedding was having their Mexican and Cajun families become one. “Seeing how everyone enjoyed themselves and being able to see the traditions from where we both come from was important and special for the both of us,” Grant explains.
Andrea says that the most important part of their wedding was the mass because it was bilingual. “It meant a lot since we had family from out of the country,” says Andrea.
The couple gives special thanks to wedding planner Lidice Ortiz-Manor of Momentous Event Planners for making the celebration special. “We are thankful for the hard work our wedding planner Lidice did with our wedding,” Andrea says. “She definitely brought two cultures together as one.”
Newlyweds Grant and Andrea also give kudos to DJ Aaron Lane. “He did an amazing job of fusing together the two cultures musically,” Grant acknowledges. “Everyone enjoyed themselves dancing and partying.”
The couple sends a special thanks to Bolgiano media for “doing a great job capturing every moment of this special day.”
The Perfect Honeymoon
After the blessed event, the couple trekked to an all-inclusive resort in Negril, Jamaica. “It was beyond beautiful, perfect and very relaxing,” Andrea gushes. “We got to do so many activities like beachside-horseback riding, zip lining, and relaxing on the beautiful beach.”
